The Primer Failed… And The Whole Wall Blew Off 😬

What started as a simple repair to two damp patches quickly turned into a much bigger issue…

Once we removed the wallpaper, we discovered the plaster had completely blown from the wall. The previous work had only been carried out around two years ago, but due to either a weak or insufficient bonding agent/primer, the plaster had failed badly.

To make matters worse, this is an older solid wall property (not a cavity wall), yet the wall had been patched and filled using bonding coat products that simply weren’t suitable for this type of breathable construction.

This is exactly why understanding the substrate and using the correct materials is so important — especially on older properties.
