Iowa's top election official raises concerns over Trump executive order on voting

"I don't have a law degree so I won't be quoting what the law might say," Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate said. "I think there's serious concerns because, I've said this before, I believe the U.S. Constitution says elections are run by the states."

The President's order calls for a number of things, which include creating a federal list of eligible voters. It directs the U.S. Postal Service to only send absentee ballots to voters on the list.

"As much as I think we have a pretty good working relationship with the post office here in Iowa," Pate said. "I'm not sure I want the post office running our elections."

Many Democratic-led states are currently challenging the order in court. Secretary Pate said he understands where the President is coming from but believes Iowa's election process is already way 'ahead of the game.'
