Overlanding Epic Mnt Range! New! Firebox Scout Emergency Stove! 1st Time Off Road Trailer Camping!

Our girls were at camp so we decided to take Luke on a road trip to explore new country. Wow! We found ourselves in the most epic mountains of our lives! We didn't waste the opportunity! We got right into the middle of all the amazing beauty soaking in every moment! Can't wait to go back!

This was our first family camping trip with the Firebox Scout Stove! I wanted to demonstrate its versatility more but fire restrictions only allowed pressurized gas which was fine, but I love having a wood fire! I've heard they're forecasting an el Niño which should bring good moisture for next year.

This was also our maiden trailer camping voyage. Jessica didn't like using our mode of transportation as our camping rig because you can't go anywhere once camp is set up. I really like camping from my truck because the whole rig is so much more off-road capable but I must admit camping from your truck isn't nearly as nice of a camping experience. Climbing in and out of the back to sleep isn't very convenient when you need to relieve yourself at night and changing your clothes while you're laying down is always a struggle. Camping in the trailer is more like being at home and can be used as a base camp allowing for easier day trips however your off-road capability becomes limited by the trailers weight and inability to turn around in tight places. Having more places to quickly and easily store and or access gear sure is nice. Everything has its pros and cons, I think the camper trailer will be nice for family camping but I'll stick with my truck or motorcycle for solo or two person trips.

As far as creating the ultimate base camp trailer system for family camping I think I combined the right camper, awning and rooftop tent. I have some minor adjustments (so the awning can handle a bit more wind and be easier to deploy) to make it perfect. Well, maybe not perfect (a bit tall and heavy) but darn close. You'll be able to see the wrap around awning and roof top tent in action in my next family camping video (coming soon!).
