The Northwest Corner Rule is a method used to find an initial feasible solution for transportation problems in operations research. It starts allocating supplies and demands from the top-left (northwest) cell of a cost matrix and proceeds row by row or column by column. Though it doesn't guarantee the optimal solution, it provides a quick starting point for further optimization methods like the MODI or stepping-stone method.
