Top 10 Tips for Taking Better Cell Phone Photos (take 2)
Appologies if you commented on my previous video. I had to make a few minor corrections and upload again :) ...
Many people want to know how to take better photos using a cell phone. I have many thoughts on this topic and decided to jot down my top 10 tips. I have used various Android (Samsung) and iPhone models (5, 5s, 6, 6s, 7, etc.) over the years and feel these tips apply to all:). Please note: ALL demo shots were taken with the iPhone 6s.

=== TIPS ===
#1 ... learn everything you can about your phone's camera and related application
- in the world of mirror vs mirrorless cameras, did you know your phone is a mirrorless camera?
- phones have a fixed aperture and electronic shutter
- you can easily install different camera applications
#2 ... discover strengths and weaknesses of your camera
- fine in good lighting but struggles in low lighting
- dynamic range suffers so consider HDR
- relatively high ISO can generate lots of noise
#3 ... consider shooting in RAW and post editing
- in low light or whenever you want to get the most out of the image
- post edit is good to reduce noise, adjust white balance, add sharpness, etc.
- not needed for all shots
#4 ... clean your lens
#5 ... do not zoom
- mobile phones do not offer optical zoom which means poor quality will result
- get physically closer if you can or consider cropping after the shot
#6 ... work on composition
- use rule of thirds (enable grid in application if available)
- framing (standard vs fill), leading lines, separation
#7 ... take shots from different angles
- get down low, to the side, up high, etc.
#8 ... touch screen to lock focus and exposure
#9 ... use a tripod or steady surface for slow shutters
- consider using a tripod for any shot slower than 1/60 of second
- use self timer to prevent camera shake
#10 ... practice, practice, and practice some more
- the better you understand your camera and software, the more efficient you will become
