Morning Practice Session 10 3 2025 #pnwgolfing #golf #golfswing#lefthandedgolfer #golfislife #golf
Good Morning Everybody,
Great job. You made it to Friday. I hope that whatever you do today sets up your weekend in a way that supports your lifestyle.
This weekend I plan to play some golf and spend time with my wife. The things that I am able to accomplish are literally only possible(and enjoyable) because of our partnership. We may even get to go and play nine holes of golf to celebrate Golf Day(10.4.2025).
As you may know, from the YouTube shorts, I have been arriving at the practice facility about 60 minutes prior to sunrise. The intention all week, and possibly for the foreseeable future, has been to develop my golf "feels". Which from my experience is using up to all five senses to make the best possible decisions on the golf course.
A lot of tour players advocate for developing this type of "sixth sense". The challenge with all new workouts is creating a process that will aid my developmental goals.
To start, I bought so glow in the dark golf(GITD) balls, grabbed a head lamp, and went to the practice green before sunrise. I knew that I would have approximately an hour of total darkness. I decided to eliminate sight and, believe it or not, physical touch; which was accomplished using rain gloves.
I strive to set short, and long achievable goals so that I come back and do the work. So, I set up routine of putting short distances with limited visibility.
Eliminating sight was one of the best things I could have done. I had to guess the approximate distance from address, putt in that direction, and trust that the balls would find the hole. In other words, I had to have faith in the process.
The journey brought a few take aways as a result of this experiment:
A. Golf Feel Development
The GITD balls helped me see a path of travel that can only be seen when an illuminated object travels on a dark surface. Putting in the dark brought contours, changes in height over distance(rise over run) to "light". Learning about the local breaks, a place on putting surface where the probability of the ball changing speed, and direction is high, was crucial for my development as well. Mostly because it helps me understand why the ball changes speed and direction.
I plan to putt in the same areas later this afternoon to complete the experiment. Hopefully I will be able to validate the Golf Feels by placing the ball within three feet of the hole.
Quick Note about GITD balls that may benefit your game:
1. I physically putted with GITD balls for a couple of mornings to develop the Feels then switched to regular balls later in the week.
GITD balls have a different polymer plastic ratio. Some people describe it as a harder, brittle plastic that breaks over heavy use. I recommend using them only as a training aid and not for game play. This will extend the life of your GITD golf balls.
2. While the balls do not hold a strong charge for more than 10 minutes, they are good tool for pin target zones, and hole marking. I exposed the golf balls to a 500 + lumen light source for a few seconds, and either placed half a dozen of charged balls to illuminate a target hole, and or placed a singular ball behind a target pin. Both methods worked well for me, and hopefully, they can work for you.
B. Elemental Awareness
Immediately after shutting the head lamp off I noticed that I had a visual imprint of the pin. This may have been the first time that I had experienced that. I usually have to think about the area that I want to put to and paint the picture. And to have that image burned into my brain for a few seconds was a great because I spent less time creating an image and more time putting to the image.
A bonus to putting in the morning is fresh dew on the putting deck. The dew gave me immediate feedback on where the ball traveled, how far, and, where the ball changed direction. Which will help my Elemental Awareness factor.
C. Trust
I have to trust that the process will bring some enlightenment.
I accomplished this by letting go of any expectations and take each moment as it came to me.
D. Eliminating Physical Touch
The biggest challenge of putting at night is trusting that your grip on the club is in the correct orientation. Luckily for me, I had brought a head lamp to verify those feels.
Another added benefit to to wearing gloves is that I was able to keep my hands warm and dry. It has been said that our hands are like what antennas are to insects such as ants and bees. So, it only makes sense to protect the two items that potentially have the greatest influence on my golf game.
In short, I am very lucky to get the opportunity to create a process that aids my golf game. And it is a privilege to share it with you.
Thank you for taking time out of your day to support this journey.
