Kyoto's 450-year-old sacred tree collapses at World Heritage site

A 450-year-old sacred tree revered at Kyoto’s World Heritage-listed Shimogamo Shrine has collapsed, apparently due to age-related deterioration. Shrine officials say the tree, the largest in the historic Tadasu no Mori forest, has shown signs of weakening for some time but no injuries are reported.
