Effect of electric field on a candle flame ( ionic wind )

A few of our students are now working on corona discharges and ionic wind. Luutzen wants to sample viruses from air using corona discharges. Peter and Immanual are BSc students and want to create an improved ionic propulsion system and Zhifeng is going to model corona discharges and ionic wind at high frequencies. I decided to demonstrate ionic wind using the famous experiment of candle flame in an electric field. My anemometer was not suitable to measure the speed of ionic wind created, so i decided to cut a paper piece and make a basic wind detector, forgetting the fact that paper will be attracted to the charged electrodes. At first when i saw paper was attracting to the electrodes, I was surprised that what a wind force. Later i did the experiment from behind the electrode and saw that the paper again attracted to the electrode but not fully. I realized my mistake and figured out how to explain it so to make sense.
