London Docklands 1 - the LDDC.mpg

By 1979 London's docks were empty and derelict. From Tower Bridge to Woolwich mile upon mile of empty space - both sides of the Thames. The government created the London Docklands Development Corporation (LDDC) to regenerate one tenth of London. Highly controversial the LDDC had no clear plan at the start, just charged to regenerate and react. Closed in 1997 it had created, among other things - the DLR, City airport and Canary Wharf. It showed the world how to regenerate an inner city and today can be credited with starting what the Olympics finished. Without it Paris would have held the 2012 games. This clip comes from a film I made with Desmond Wilcox (the VO) and the then LDDC team in 1997 - Battle for Docklands - the story of the LDDC. The clip opens with Sunny Crouch, LDDC Marketing Manager with Desmond Wilcox. Reg Ward, the first Chief Exec. passed away recently, may he rest in peace. London should be grateful to him. My (c) is a spoiler only.
