Indigenous hunter-gatherers and forest conservation, Thomas’s story - #SWMProgramme

This video tells the story of Thomas, an indigenous hunter-gatherer living in the Ituri forest in the northeastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. He is actively involved in the conservation of the Okapi Wildlife Reserve.
Find out how the Sustainable Wildlife Management (SWM) Programme is working with Thomas, supporting forest conservation and sustainable levels of hunting in the region.

In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the SWM Programme is being coordinated by the Wildlife Conservation Society. The SWM Programme is an Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States initiative, funded by the European Union with co-funding from the French Facility for Global Environment and the French Development Agency.
