Bengal's 'Detect, Delete, Deport' Policy Triggers Panic As Illegal Immigrants Queue At Border

The new state government has launched a massive crackdown on illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators in West Bengal. Executing a core strategy to detect, delete, and deport, the administration has established over ten detention centres across the state, including in Murshidabad's Lalgola. The chief minister has directed police to detain undocumented immigrants and hand them over to the Border Security Force for deportation. Additionally, the state has handed over 142.79 acres of land to the paramilitary force to facilitate barbed wire fencing along a 27-kilometre stretch of the Indo-Bangladesh border within forty-five days. This zero-tolerance policy has triggered complete panic, prompting hundreds of illegal immigrants to queue at the Hakimpur check post in North 24 Parganas, hoping to return to Bangladesh. Authorities are verifying their documents and biometrics before handing their credentials over to the Border Guard Bangladesh. The state government continues to strictly enforce the Foreigners Act to curb illegal immigration.
