How To Make A Fox Trap From A Shopping Trolley -- And First Live Catch

How to use an old salvaged shopping cart/trolley to make a homemade trap that actually works. The materials were entirely free and it took maybe three hours.

We really like foxes (as we really like all the wildlife we are lucky enough to have around us) but one of the local ones has learned how to get over the fence of our hen run. We've lost a few, and of course we have a responsibility to our hens too. We don't have a gun, and we won't use poison or snares (for reasons which should be obvious if you watch this video), so that only left a trap as a possible solution.

Fox traps are expensive to buy (and how often do you need one?) so this is my really simple homemade design. The bait we used were bones, sausages, cat food, and finally a dead hen. The biggest problem was the rats -- they would eat the bait and not set off the trap, or the trap would spring but they'd just walk away. So it seems the hen is the only thing that will work.

You might notice that I have not included the 'B' word in the title, description or tags -- I don't want anyone looking up how to catch these wonderful animals.

We have re-set the trap and if we catch anything else we'll let you know..
