The 1970s Leitz Diavert inverted microscope and the 1950s Leitz Heine condenser

#AmateurMicroscopy
Take a walkthrough of the 1970s Diavert stand, the objectives and condensers I have for it. Also shown is my photomicrography setup using a Sony A99 camera and the way I integrated the flash. I demonstrate the variable NA light ring of the Heine and its effect on the image. Lastly, I do a resolution test using an Amphipleura pellucida diatom.

0:00 Overview of the Diavert
8:24 Photomicrography setup
14:45 Leitz Pv era 170mm objectives
17:53 Leitz Fluotar objectives and the Plezy adapter
23:02 Heine NA 1.4 condenser
26:22 Leitz bright field NA 0.9 flip top condenser
27:05 Nikon NA 1.4 bright field condenser
27:53 Nicol prism NA 1.35 polarizing condenser
30:37 Demonstration of the Heine adjustable light ring
37:33 Mixing 160 and 170mm objectives
41:28 A Pellucida resolution test

after video edit: At around 38:00, I got the tube length discussion messed up. Tube length is measured from the shoulder of the objective (not the object the objective is focused on) to the top of the tube where the eyepiece is inserted. That is the 160 or 170mm length. I think the 150mm and 152mm lengths are from the shoulder of the objective to the field stop inside the eyepiece. In order to accommodate the difference between 160 and 170mm objectives, you have to slightly refocus the objective because the tube length is a fixed dimension for one or the other objective tube length (causing mainly spherical aberration in the final image).
