Che Guevara and Santa Clara - Cuba

Ernesto, "Che" Guevara, was an Argentine Marxist revolutionary, physician, author, guerrilla leader, diplomat, and military theorist. Born in Argentina, at June 14, 1928, and executed in Bolivia, at October 9, 1967. Che, was a major figure of the Cuban Revolution. His stylized visage has become a ubiquitous countercultural symbol of rebellion and global insignia in popular culture.
The Che Guevara Mausoleum is a memorial in Santa Clara, located in "Che Guevara Square".
It houses the remains of the revolutionary Ernesto, "Che" Guevara, and twenty-nine of his fellow combatants killed in 1967, during Guevara's attempt to spur an armed uprising in Bolivia.
The full area, which contains a bronze 22-foot statue of Guevara, is referred to as the Ernesto Guevara Sculptural Complex. The complex was designed by architects Jorge Cao Campos, Blanca Hernández, and José Ramón Linares, together with sculptors, José de Lázaro Bencomo, and José Delarra,
The "Tren Blindado", Spanish for armoured train, is a national monument, memorial park, and museum of the Cuban Revolution. It was created by Cuban sculptor, José Delarra, in memory of the events of 29 December 1958, during the Battle of Santa Clara. The memorial is located on the Avenica Liberación, just after the depot of Santa Clara station, nearby a level crossing. It lies between the Havana-Camagüey-Santiago rail line and the Cubanicay river. It consists of an open sculpture park, an obelisk dedicated to Che Guevara, and a monument to the bulldozer used by Guevara and his soldiers to derail the train. The derailed cars are used as the rooms of the museum.
Loma del Capiro, is a group of three small peaks located in the city of Santa Clara. The elevation gained local and worldwide historic significance, after Che Guevara used it as hideout and command center to invade the city in the Battle of Santa Clara. A monument commemorating the battle was placed at the top of the smallest peak, called Capiro. With a strategic location overlooking the city, the hill was decisive for the rebels in their quest to take down the Batista regime in 1958. Boasting an army airport, Santa Clara city had several garrisons, numerous troops, mortars tanks and air support. Che, intercepted an armored train filled with weapons passing the skirts of Capiro hill. The train was derailed and using Molotov cocktails against its metal walls. The soldiers inside did not stand a chance against the heat and gave up. With all the new armament the rebels began gaining positions inside the city. Once Santa Clara was in the hands of the rebel force, Batista fled Cuba from Havana, never to return again. The Revolution triumphed that very day.
