In almost every way, these S7 trains were similar to the S6 trains. Like the S2, S3, S4 and S6 class power trains, these S7 trains had one power-driven compartment with engine, one non-engine-driven compartment, and two other passenger compartments. The original color of these trains was red, and later some sets were painted green and brown and some DMUs were painted green and yellow from time to time. These S7 trains also run shoulder to shoulder with S6 counterparts for most office trains. These trains also run on the coastal, Kelani Valley, Puttalam and Rambukkana on the main line.

The power supply engine of the train brought to this country was the engine with maximum RPM (2100 RPM) (Cummins KTA 2300L) in the engine of this S7 DMU. For this reason, the internal parts of this type of engine wear out very quickly and over time, various technical errors arise. Also under the S6, the underframes were weak. This type of train set was also phased out due to problems with spare parts required for repairs. However, train number 766 was also in operation until recently and it is stated that train number 762 was running on the Kelani Valley route until the end of 2011.
