| Kaliningrad, Russia, August 3, 2019 - Russia will play Korea for top spot after claiming a second victory in the pool against Canada on Saturday in Kaliningrad.

Vadim Pankov, head coach Russia team: "All the most difficult is ahead, rivals are on the rise. Korea is the main rival. It is important that we won today with a score of 3-0, we save strength. In the second and third sets, the score was approximately equal, this suggests that Canada is a good team. They are absolutely not shy, great attack, take risks, play combinations. For us it was unpleasant, however, the score was 3-0 in our favour."

Evgenia Startseva, captain Russia team: "We didn’t use up all our strength, but the match with Canada was really intense. Canadians showed a good game. I don’t remember at all that we played with them before. They showed good volleyball, and we were prepared for it.

"Tomorrow is day X. Everyone understands everything perfectly. We know how Korea plays. Tomorrow is a very important day. They have a bright leader - Kim Yeon-koung. But overall this is a very good team. Asian teams are always very good in defense, they are technical. Problems with the roster did not stop the Koreans from winning two matches here."

Irina Koroleva, Russia: "The first set was easy for us, and then the game went back and forth. But the final result is 3-0, it’s good that we won with such a score. We were preparing for this, we knew that Korea would be on the third day. We are one hundred per cent ready.

"The result of the match showed that everyone was doing right. Canada actually surprised us. I thought Canada would be weaker than Mexico. And the match with Mexico turned out to be more confident by us. Canada has very tall girls - it was very interesting to play them."

Kyla Richey captain Canada team: "It took us a long time to get comfortable in the game. The first set was needed for adaptation. The hall is beautiful."

Tom Black, head coach Canada team: "It was a very difficult game, I congratulate the Russians on their victory. Tomorrow we will see who is stronger - the Russian or Korean team. The Russians outplayed us in some moments, acted perfectly in attack. Our psychological state was excellent, we were able to overcome all the problems that arose because of injuries to the athletes.

"There is a wonderful atmosphere here, wonderful fans. We really really enjoyed playing in Kaliningrad."
