In 2009, I got the call that I’d been selected for People Magazine’s Most Beautiful Issue. Cue the internal screaming in excitement.

There was just one catch.

The photoshoot required a completely bare face. No makeup. No filters. No hiding.

I said yes immediately — because of course I did. My castmates were doing it, my publicist was thrilled, and on paper, this was the kind of career moment you’re supposed to celebrate without hesitation.

What nobody knew? I’d been quietly hiding something about my skin since I was 13 years old.
