Leaving a letter for Michael Jackson at the gates of Neverland

In 2000, while visiting my brother who was graduating from Thomas Aquinas College near Santa Paula, we decided to drive the long and winding road to Michael Jackson's famed 3000-acre Neverland Valley Ranch in Los Olivos, California. The humble and unassuming gate would be easy to miss. As I rang the security bell, I heard the unmistakable music from the carousel just over the hill.

The guard let me leave a letter I had written for Michael. We then drove a little further to get a photo-op next to the "No Trespassing" sign. Evidently there were cameras in the trees, as a pickup truck quickly approached. We jumped in our car, and the truck turned back into the gates of Neverland.

As another guest drove in, I listened in to their conversation with the security guard, and heard the words "Yes, Mr. Jackson is home." Being there, that close to The Man was a childhood dream.
