Leviathan - C64

What I remember most about Leviathan on the Commodore 64 is the music. The track is sick. Legit one of the best bit tunes on the system. I used to boot up the game just to sit there and listen to that sweet, crunchy C64 audio bliss. I probably listened to the music more than I actually played the game—and I played it a lot.

The game itself? Pretty solid. It’s kind of like a more polished Zaxxon—an isometric shooter where you’re flying through sci-fi landscapes, dodging terrain and blasting enemies. It’s got that mid-’80s arcade feel. Like, you could imagine walking into a pizza place and seeing this as a stand-up cab. But no—it was a home computer game. And a good one.

Released in 1987 by English Software, Leviathan looked and sounded great for its time. Fast action, tight controls, colorful graphics, and again… that soundtrack. Just a vibe. I was never very good at it (which was kind of the theme for me and isometric shooters), but it kept pulling me back in.

Honestly, that music still slaps. Maybe it’s time I finally make that remix.
