Old Threshers Reunion - Mt Pleasant, Iowa
Joe visits the Old Threshers reunion in Mt Pleasant, Iowa. This is an annual event held over the Labor Day weekend each year.
we start the video by listening to Cali Wilson sing while watching a parade of horses put to all kinds of antique horse-drawn vehicles including hay wagons, people movers, carriages and more.
Joe interviews Larry Robinson - an participant since 2003. He brings his team of Suffolk horses each year and they power the saw mill, threshing machine and more.
Next we get a great look at a horse-powered sawmill with a 48" blade. It is powered by five teams of two draft horses each. it is cutting 2x4s.
The horse powered Well Boring Machine is next. It is powered by one horse using only voice commands. Watch as a 25' deep well is drilled.
Next, a vintage Sandwich Corn Sheller shells corn powered by a single horse.
Joe then talks with Bob Davidson who is manning the JI Case Dingy Power threshing Machine with a 6 sweep Horsepower Sweep. Each sweep is pulled by a team of 2 draft horses. They are threshing beardless wheat. We get to see all of the moving parts!
The last piece of large equipment we watch is a Hay Press/square baler. It is powered by one horse and we watch men hand feed and tie the wires after the hay is pressed into bales.
We end the day listening to the music of Wissmann's Gospel Singers while watching footage of the static and dynamic displays of antique tractors and steam engines.
