Cocos Keeling Islands Trashbash '23: Protecting Paradise

Returning for the fourth consecutive year, Sea Shepherd Australia's crew of dedicated volunteers faced new gruelling challenges in this breathtaking marine oasis - Fish Aggregating Devices (FADs).

This is the first time our Remote Marine Debris Crew have tackled the extreme challenge of removing FADs – a specific type of ghost fishing gear, constructed from ropes, nets, and buoys.

Posing a deadly risk to precious marine life, our dedicated crew worked incredibly hard during this recent campaign, removing 2 tonnes of fishing gear from our ocean!

Thank you to the Shire of Cocos Keeling Islands, Parks Australia, and the local community for supporting the annual Cocos Trash Campaign: we could not do this without your continued support.
