Thoughts on Ocracoke Access

Help us advocate for fair, consistent and safe access to Ocracoke and the Outer Banks. This area is a gem in the great state of North Carolina, and we work hard to welcome visitors. We act as ambassadors to not just our area, but we also advocate for the state as a whole. We were honored to welcome the NCDOT Board, engineers and other important staff to Ocracoke Island on May 5, 2026 so they could see what our road and ferry issues are and to experience this beautiful area. If you value our ferry system (it is a unique experience that fills your soul once you ride the ferry) please contact your division board representative (https://apps.ncdot.gov/dot/directory/authenticated/UnitPage.aspx?id=13072) and encourage them to continue to support our ferry system and to help find long term solutions to keep the ferry and road open and accessible. North Carolina is a state that has so many unique and diverse areas that we should work together to help all these state gems thrive.
