What's up guys it's Pete. I’m quarantined in the infinity label group print lab so I can discuss the end of sale of the Epson GP-C831 inkjet color label printer and explain why making a transition to the Epson CW-C6500 might be right for you. Let's get started.

Released in 2013, the Epson ColorWorks GP-C831 was a breakthrough tool for GHS color labeling everywhere. It has especially found its home in chemical manufacturing plants and vertical markets everywhere. Due to its ease of use, reliability, and ability to print up to eight and a half inches wide at 360 DPI, this printer has seen widespread popularity to this day.

As of June 15th, 2020, Epson will cease the sale of C831 printers. Instead, they will begin to pivot their focus to the brand new ColorWorks CW-C6500 series of color label printers. Released in January 2020, these are also capable of printing up to 8.34 inches wide and they feature the ability to print at variable resolutions ranging from 600dpi to 1200 dpi. In order to help you visualize this, here we have an Epson c831 and an Epson c6500 set up next to one another. I'm going to be running the same print job on both printers at the same time, so you can see the difference in printing capabilities.

Our PDF documents are eight and a half by eleven sample GHS-compliant chemical barrel labels. I will hit print and then unpause the printers at the same time so that spooling time is not a factor. Let’s see how that goes.

As you can see, the C6500 produces a much sharper, more vibrant label, even at the lowest quality settings. Not only does the print look great, but the durability is remarkable. With a native print resolution of 600dpi, the C6500 is nearly double that of the C831!

Forget about this boring, grey interface. The C6500 features a beautiful full-color digital LCD interface.

You also have an opportunity to lower the size of your printing footprint. While the C6500 is slightly larger by itself, the removal of an external box of labels saves a ton of space. The ability to load the internal media on the C6500 from any direction with their dual-latching cover helps to minimize issues when deciding where to position the printer.

You can even throw out those old pin-fed labels. The C6500 not only comes with its own internal core for 3” inner diameter roll labels at up to a 6” outer diameter, but you can switch the printer setting to feed from the rear, and print fanfold labels too. If that isn’t enough, our friends over at DPR labeling have crafted their own solution, a sturdy, automated 3” external core roll-to-roll system that can support a much larger outer-diameter roll. You can see how that works in our demonstration video, I will throw a link up right now.

As solutions experts, we also need to look to the future when we make an investment like purchasing a printer. The C6500 offers two variations. The one we have here features an auto cutter, and the other option has a peel-and-present mechanism, so you can choose what’s right for you. IO Capabilities allow you to integrate this printer into your business automation processes, and even allow you to pause, clean, and print remotely.

Just because the C831 will no longer be in production, that doesn't mean you have to change your whole solution. In fact, you should consider the c6500 to be a direct upgrade that will improve your printing workflows even further and help evolve the way you run your business.

If you need more insight into the benefits of making a change to the C6500, or want to know how it can improve your workflows, get in touch with us at www.ipsiscan.com.

If you already have a C6500 and need supplies, or want to order one, check out our store at www.infinitylabelgroup.com, where we carry just about everything you could need to keep your printer going.

This has been Pete, I’ll see you next time.
