Headlight Elator Beetles in Texas
Group of some bioluminescent Headlight Elator beetles (Deilelater physoderus Germar) caught June 2014 on a ranch in South Texas - Atascosa County. Conditions were perfect for them due to a recent heavy rain, warm, humid with plenty of darkness. These beetles have two spots that glow consistently and another on the underside that glows sometimes. They do not generally flash like fireflies. Very unique!
