Consumer Behavior Is Changing Fast

“Alcohol sales are down.”

That one statement opened up a much bigger conversation about changing consumer behavior, generational shifts, and how businesses are trying to adapt in real time.

What made this discussion interesting was how difficult it is to pinpoint one exact reason. Health awareness. Mental health conversations. People not wanting to feel terrible the next day. Legalized marijuana. Economic pressure. Younger generations socializing differently. Everyone has a theory, but almost every business in hospitality is seeing the shift happen at the same time.

The important part is that smart operators are paying attention instead of pretending nothing is changing. Consumer behavior rarely shifts overnight. It usually moves slowly until businesses suddenly realize the old assumptions no longer work the way they used to.

That applies far beyond restaurants and bars. Every industry eventually runs into moments where customer expectations, workforce culture, and buying behavior evolve faster than companies are prepared for. The businesses that survive are usually the ones willing to observe patterns early and adapt before they’re forced to.

That’s why long-form podcast conversations are valuable. They capture real operational discussions happening inside industries right now instead of polished talking points after the fact.
