India has expelled six Canadian diplomats after a day of dramatic developments in New Delhi and Ottawa.

In a press conference, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police claimed that diplomats from India, including India's High Commissioner to Canada Sanjay Verma was a 'person of interest' in the investigation related to the death of separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Surrey, Canada. India hit back.

It accused Ottawa of following a political agenda that is centred around Trudeau's vote bank politics amidst shrinking popularity. While Canada claims it has expelled Indian diplomats, MEA says India's envoys were withdrawn as India had 'no faith in the current Canadian Government's commitment to ensure diplomats' security'.

This marks the newest and most bitter chapter yet in the souring of relations between India and Canada that have been deteriorating for a year now.
