Arthur M Anderson Duluth Arrival, 45th Anniversary of Edmund Fitzgerald Sinking, 11/10/20.

The Arthur M Anderson is seen arriving Duluth, Minnesota on November 10th, 2020, the 45th anniversary of the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald. As most of you know, the Anderson was the last vessel to contact the Edmund Fitzgerald, at 7:10pm. Even after taking shelter in Whitefish Bay, she and another freighter, the William Clay Ford, headed back into the storm to search for possible survivors and wreckage of the Edmund Fitzgerald.

45 years later, weather in the twin ports was cloudy and as darkness fell snow started to fall as well. The Anderson would pass the Splitrock lightouse in the last couple of minutes of it being lit, and then come in on approach to the canal. Before coming into the harbor, then turned around and headed into the lake, a possible tribute to the brave men onboard the Anderson who went back out into the storm to look for survivors, and came around a second time, giving a special Masters Salute (to commemorate the Edmund Fitzgerald) which was answered by the bridge. It was a surreal experience.

The ship is visible at 3:30
