Case Studies – Stroke

We will be discussing stroke case studies brought in by EMS, stroke signs and symptoms, assessing for stroke, stroke care in the hospital, and treatment options. We will discuss and answer questions about the Acute Stroke EMS Routing Pilot Study and Posterior Cerebellar Assessment.

Eve Koehler, RN, MS, MPH is a Stroke Program Coordinator at Northwest Hospital. Her background includes stroke research at University of MD, 5+ years of caring for stroke patients on a stroke unit, and my current role for 1.5 yrs.

Linda Toral, BSN, RN, CNRN, SCRN is a Stroke Certified Registered Nurse and Certified Neuroscience Registered Nurse with over 30 years’ experience in Nursing. She graduated from the University of Delaware, where she volunteered on the student ambulance, city of Newark ambulance and in the Newark Emergency room. She has been with Sinai Hospital since 2000, holding various positions to include outpatient clinic manager, stroke unit case manager, stroke program coordinator and her current role of Manager of the NeuroRescue Network at LifeBridgehealth. She has participated, as an invited speaker, in Stroke Certification review courses and at the Maryland Comprehensive Stroke Conference. She has also provided education to Baltimore City and Baltimore County EMS providers and coordinated training for the Baltimore City EMS pilot.
