The figure 4 Deadfall is probably the most widely known and recognized primitive trap. It is fairly simple to make once you are familiar with it. There are numerous ways to set up a figure 4 deadfall. The method of carving the figure 4 in this video is the way I have come to carve my sets based on trial and error. Primitive traps are almost always illegal to use outside of a true survival scenario however, it is good practice using your bushcraft knife and knowing how to make primitive traps is good knowledge to possess just in case. The figure 4 trap trigger is a very versatile trigger and can be used in many ways other than supporting a deadfall. Simple trap triggers like the figure 4 are fun to make and tinker with and will help further your bushcraft skills and survival skills for food gathering.
