Who I Come From - Keep Pressure On Biden

Kathryn and I just signed this petition (link in bio) with @RESCUEorg to @POTUS asking that the administration uphold their promise to refugees. Please join us in keeping the pressure on till the announcement on May 15th. We cannot keep Trumps historically low 15k cap. Follow this link to sign the petition and learn more. https://act.rescue.org/3T88Yon or find the link in my bio.

On #FindingYourRoots I recently discovered many of my relatives died in The Holocaust. I, like so many Americans, come from people who desperately needed safe haven from violence and destruction. I wish they could have found that haven before they were murdered.

We feel Biden is doing great on a lot of issues. We still need to maintain pressure on him and the administration to keep their word and do better on issues they’re falling short on. Thats our job having elected them, to hold them to their word and to always ask them to do better. Gratitude and criticism can co-exist.

Here is the letter attached to the petition.

“Despite originally proposing to resettle 62,500 refugees this fiscal year, the Biden administration recently committed to resettling a mere 15,000 refugees in 2021 – a number set by the Trump administration and the lowest level in the history of the program.

Never before have we seen a president set a refugee admissions ceiling lower than what their administration proposed to Congress. This unjustified retreat from the original goal of 62,500 impacts more than 30,000 refugees who have already been conditionally approved by the U.S. government to be admitted and over 100,000 waiting in the processing pipeline for years to be reunited. The IRC and other refugee resettlement agencies stand ready and waiting to welcome these individuals.

Your voice matters, and the Biden administration has since changed course and committed to raising the refugee cap by May 15, but there are concerns that they may set a cap well below their original proposal. Any number under 62,500 is simply too low. Too many lives are at stake: without bold action in the near term, fulfilling President Biden’s vision of welcoming 125,000 refugees next year may be out of reach.

Tell President Biden to follow through with his proposed refugee admissions cap of 62,500 without delay.”
