Cost of Comparison | Yara Abdulhadi | TEDxASK Youth

Yara explores the topic of comparison, whether it appears on social media, in school, or even within our own thoughts. Her talk asks an important question: what does comparison actually cost us? Cost of Comparison discusses how comparing, especially through social media platforms, slowly and quietly affect teens' self esteem and identity. It explains the psychology behind why our brains are wired to compare, and illustrates the different comparisons we use everyday. The talk also emphasizes on how these comparisons play a role in teenagers building their identity. All in all, it motivates people to compare themselves to their past selves instead of others. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
