P.A. Sangma Memorial Cricket Tournament Kicks Off With 84 Teams in Garo Hills

The 4th edition of the P.A. Sangma Memorial Day & Night Cricket Tournament kicked off with high energy at the Police Parade ground in Tura, honoring the legacy of the late Lok Sabha Speaker while bringing together 84 local teams for a high-intensity, 10-over competition. Running from May 13th to May 25th, the event was inaugurated by guest dignitaries including MLAs Subir M. Marak and Arbinstone Marak, who highlighted the critical role of discipline and the state's growing sports infrastructure, such as the Mawkhanu Football Stadium. Despite a slightly smaller bracket this year due to time constraints, the tournament remains a premier sporting extravaganza in the Garo Hills, featuring an opening exhibition match and a dominant inaugural victory by South Tura NPYF, further cementing its reputation as a vital platform for local talent.
