Abhyaas Series Ep 8 | JEE Advanced 2026 | Physics Paper 1 Q8
Episode 8 of the Abhyaas Series is here.
An electromagnetic wave is given in a specific mathematical form and you have to verify four statements about it. This question is entirely about how well you can read information directly out of the wave equation. The electric field is given as a vector, the argument has both y and z components, and omega is left unknown. Every piece of information you need is sitting right there in the equation if you know what to look for.
The direction of propagation, the wave vector, the angular frequency, and the magnetic field direction are all things you should be able to extract systematically. Students who have truly understood electromagnetic waves will find this question very clean. Students who have only seen standard one dimensional wave equations will struggle with the 3y plus 4z part because it involves a wave propagating in a direction that is not along any single coordinate axis.
Option D is the most involved because finding the magnetic field requires you to know the direction of propagation, the direction of E, and use the cross product relationship between E and B in an electromagnetic wave.
What we cover in this video:-
How to read the direction of propagation from the wave equation when the wave travels in an oblique direction
Extracting the wave vector and finding its magnitude for option B
Using the wave vector magnitude and speed of light to find omega and verifying option C
Finding the direction of the magnetic field using the cross product of propagation direction and E direction
Writing the full magnetic field expression and verifying option D
Which options are correct and the complete reasoning
Concept used: Electromagnetic Waves, Wave Vector, Angular Frequency, Magnetic Field in EM Wave
