In this interview, Mike Roman recalls his service in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He remembers his upbringing and his parents' background. He enlisted in the Army after attending college for a few semesters. He describes his training and his duties in Vietnam, fixing electronics equipment. He comments on the great leadership in his first unit and remembers experiences he had while working with a squad of Army Rangers in the field. He describes his second tour, building and maintaining listening devices and explains the kinds of equipment they used. He comments at length on the poor leadership in his second unit and compares it with that of his first. He recalls being spit on and having bottles thrown at him on his return from Vietnam and remembers how difficult it was to find a job. He describes his post-military career and reflects on the effects his military service had on his life.
