Paige Connect: Bringing Traditional Braille Writers into the Digital Age

Sarah Welch: APH Product Manager

Sarah Welch is a Product Manager on the Braille Technology Team at APH. She joined APH in 2021 and has enjoyed working on many different products. The most recent product she worked on to be released is the Paige Connect, which brings technology to the traditional braille writer. She is excited for products currently in development and looks forward to bringing innovation to the field.


Melisa Matthews: APH Product Manager—Braille Technology

Melisa Matthews began her career as an elementary educator with a focus on early childhood. As a mom of two children with albinism, she became a Teacher of the Visually Impaired and dedicated herself to supporting families raising children with visual impairments through early intervention programs. As the APH FamilyConnect Digital Content Manager, she has created and shared resources through articles, blogs, and webinars. Now, as Product Manager: Braille Technology at APH, Melisa leads efforts to advance braille literacy tools and technology. Her journey reflects a deep commitment to inclusive education and empowering families.

Learning Objectives:

1) Recognize characteristics of learners (students and/or adults) who would benefit from Paige Connect based on literacy needs, learning goals and learning environments.

2) Navigate the Paige Braille website to locate key learner tools (Learn, Translate, Homework) for learners and families.

3) Reflect on personal instructional practices to identify opportunities where Paige Connect could enhance learner engagement, support their effectiveness, and provide opportunities for learners to be more inclusive within their learning environment or homes.
