International student cap to help ‘alleviate’ housing market pressure
Shadow Finance Minister Jane Hume says the capping of international students is part of a “broader push” to “alleviate pressure” on the Australian housing market.
Ms Hume said capping the number of international students at universities was a “bipartisan approach”.
“We have a housing crisis in Australia and somehow, we got to take the air out of the tyres of the housing crisis.”
The Shadow Finance Minister says it is known that foreign students put “exceptional pressure” on housing.
