The people of Ladakh want participation for its people, not dominance, says Zuhaib Yousuf Mir
Ladakh’s streets may appear to be stirring with life again — shops reopen, children return to school, and officials claim that calm has been restored. But for many in Leh and Kargil, this is not normalcy but a careful masquerade: villages remain uneasy, key internet services are still restricted, village heads report being summoned for questioning, and the arrest of activist Sonam Wangchuk looms large over every public conversation.
The protests on September 24 left four dead due to police firing and many more injured — local civic bodies say this cannot be papered over by token gestures.
Some detainees have since been released in what authorities call “Confidence-Building Measures,” but many in Ladakh reject that as insufficient without a full judicial inquiry, restoration of local rights over land and jobs, and meaningful dialogue with New Delhi. Meanwhile, the Kargil Democratic Alliance and the Leh Apex Body insist they will not re-engage until further compromises are made.

2) Students of politics
3) People interested in the events of Ladakh
