Interactive Dungeon - Runescape

IF YOU FAILED THE DUNGEON AND ARE TRYING AGAIN READ :)
If you chose to restart the entire dungeon click here - 0:20
If you chose to restart from the boss click here (don't cheat! :P) - 24:12

There is currently a "bug" with Youtube and linking to specific times in a long video you've already viewed. Youtube is treating this video as a TV show/movie and has enabled a feature that tracks your viewing progress, which if you leave the video and come back, it will start the video from where you left off.

This feature is currently overriding annotations, so instead of linking you back to the correct point in the video, it's just sending you back to where you left off last time. If you check the URL you can see the time the annotation was mean to link to in the form of "#t=24m12s" this will let you know where you're meant to be, in this case 24:12 so you may have to manually skip to the correct part if playing more than once.

Complete floor 60 and defeat Kal'Ger the Warmonger in this interactive video!

Choose your path wisely though, 3 mistakes and you will fail.

-About this video-

There are a number of interactive videos around Youtube and I've always liked the idea of them and wanted to make one myself but attempt to make it a bit more 'interactive' than most are. I thought dungeoneering would be perfect to do this as there are multiple ways of completing a dungeon and a nice variety of stuff to do.

I started recording the dungeon part of the video on the 11th of June and it begun to dawn on me just how much of a pain in the ass this was all going to be. It took over 2 hours to record (what I hoped to be) most of the possible paths people could take, which is a bitch considering you get 1 go at everything, if you miss something important the whole recording is pretty much wasted.

Then came the mammoth task of editing it...what I was expecting to take a few hours, has taken almost 100. Churned out three 1.2mb vegas project files that look like this http://i.imgur.com/aYo3f.png and created my first real need for flow charts since leaving school (I tried without them and it broke my brain).

Once all that was done I got the pleasure of adding the annotations. Which is a tedious task anyway having to add so many, link them to the right parts of the video, make sure they're the right length etc. What made it worse was the annotation editor lags really bad once you add a lot of annotations, so halfway through adding them it would get even more frustrating and take twice as long. Then recording the boss took quite a few hours, I originally planned to make many possible paths, but soon realised how each choice could potentially quadruple the number of clips needed for the next part, once you do that 4 or 5 times you end up with 100s of outcomes. So I decided having 1 correct route per stage would work the best, which came with it's own problem. The solo dungeon bosses are so easy to kill, it was difficult to actually fail using the various attack styles and prayer combinations, so each choice would end up taking multiple dungeons before Kal'Ger would actually win one.

Part way through I was concerned a little about the difficulty. There are a lot of people with varying abilities in dungeoneering. People with a high dungeoneering level, will likely find this easy and complete it there first try, but people who don't train it much are likely going to find it very difficult to know what to do at parts. I was thinking of adding some form of optional help, but decided against adding more work (although I did add a checkpoint to the boss, to ease the pain a bit if you die on it). I figured most people should pick up on what to do fairly quickly, even if it takes them a few attempts.

So what I was expecting to be a 1-2 day project, has ended up taking 19 days, most of which I've spent 10+ hours on it. XD

There are parts where I've missed recordings in the dungeon so had to make do with stitching clips together, or skipping some choices I wanted to include (e.g. picking up the silver rec before making a grapple, I forgot to record the character moving from the spot in the previous clip to the key, so had to force people to make the grapple first), but I think it's come out close enough to how I wanted.

Hope people enjoy it ^.^
