J. P. Rameau: Alemande

Rameau 4/4 alemande 1706-1741

Rameau’s Premier Livre de pièces de clavecin was published in 1706 and reprinted from the same plates in 1741. A single copy of each printing survives.
In the first beat of the second ending of the 4/4 alemande, there is a trill on the e’ and, in the second beat, last 16 th note, a # in front of the g’’. Neither the trill nor the g# are included in all
modern editions: Durand 1895, Bärenreiter nd (ca 1959), Huegel 1979, and Creative Commons Attribution 2011. The exception is the Bärenreiter 2004 edition where both the trill and the g# are present without comment in the critical apparatus.
Remarkable is the effort modern editions put on making and keeping that g natural in spite of the original print’s g#.
