Participatory and experiential learning in restorative education

Restorative justice and restorative practices place considerable emphasis on stakeholder participation and group experiences. Those who teach these topics in universities have reasons to incorporate participatory and experiential approaches into their courses, quite apart from their observed benefits as teaching tools. The purpose of this workshop is to connect persons who teach restorative justice and restorative practices to share and co-create ideas and methods that help us achieve this goal. It starts with presentations from colleagues in the United States and Canada who use mindfulness and Lego, respectively, in their teaching, incorporating time for a group discussion on these approaches. In the second part, the organisers will lead a discussion on the use of circles in restorative education and, with participants, co-design a short resource (a slideshow and accompanying video) for distribution on how to use circles in university teaching.
