Maria Daines ~ In My Soul

A special song for Anke for her beloved dog Mogly.

Hi Maria,

here are some notes about Mogly...

Mogly was rescued from the streets together with his brothers and sisters when they were very young. Some of his brothers and sisters died. The others were adopted in the Netherlands. Mickey, his twin brother (as I believe) lives in Spain with his foster parent.

I adopted him and he arrived on the 24th of June at Schiphol airport.

I liked and loved him immediately. Usually it takes a while for me and my adopted dogs to get to know each other, but with Mogly it was instantly ok.

He was a sweet and gentle dog, who suffered from ataxia. At first he could cope with it: sometimes he would stumble and fall, but he was happy and playful.

He liked Thor, his new daddy and Thor wanted to run and play. That only happened a few times, it was too much for Mogly. He couldn't see straight and therefore Thor was too much...

He always came for support to me, he knew I'd help him. Sometimes I had to take him in my arms to help him relax and be able to fall asleep.

Slowly the ataxia got worse and then he couldn't even jump on the bed anymore.

He always had to run around to help him relax his legs again and be able to lie down at ease. That got worse too.

All the time he still was happy and he tried so hard to come along with the others...

He always went along with our walks and he enjoyed it till some weeks ago. It was so exhausting to concentrate that he lost fun. It became a struggle.

Still, he was happy when I held him and caressed him so he could relax....

But then he couldn't enjoy anything anymore, he stumbled more and more, he couldn't eat or drink because of dizziness and it was too hard for him to go on like this.

He passed away with a sigh of relief in my arms. It's good to know he has joined his mother, who will take care of him from now on.

I loved him so much, he was so gentle, wise, sweet, and he wanted so much to be 'normal'...and be in good health.

As you can see he was a very beautiful dog. But you can also see he was so calm, the stare in his eyes because of his blurred vision, that's why he stood still a lot.

It's hard to lose a dog so young, but I am so happy he was here and not in the shelter anymore...and I'm happy that I could help him end his misery.
