Voltage withstand test on a GIS from Siemens Energy (8DN8 GIS 123 kV)

The compactness of a gas insulated switchgear, or GIS, provides a lot of advantages but it also challenges the insulation between the high voltage parts and its surrounding. Thus, high voltage tests are carried out on GIS prior to switching them onto the grid. For testing at mains frequency, large and heavy test transformers are needed. A more lightweight and smaller alternative is a test system which uses resonance frequency.

Watch how the High Voltage Resonance Test System from OMICRON, with the CPC 100 and the CP RC2, is used to prove the dielectric integrity of a GIS with a rated voltage of 123 kV during a high potential test (HIPOT test).
