La Spezia è un comune italiano, capoluogo della provincia omonima in Liguria. È il secondo comune della regione per popolazione dopo Genova.
La città si trova all'estremo levante della regione Liguria, al centro di un profondo golfo naturale al quale dà il nome. Il golfo, che è conosciuto anche con l'appellativo di Golfo dei Poeti per la sua bellezza, è cinto da una continua catena di alture le cui cime più elevate, il monte Verrugoli (749 m s.l.m.), il monte Parodi (673 m s.l.m.), il monte Santa Croce (543 m s.l.m.) e il monte Viseggi (347 m s.l.m.), situate sul versante occidentale del centro abitato, sovrastano la città della Spezia.
La Spezia deve il suo sviluppo economico e sociale alla costruzione dell'Arsenale militare marittimo, nella seconda metà dell'Ottocento. La base navale, ancor oggi una fra le più importanti delle Marina Militare, ha avuto il merito di trasformare la città da borgo turistico e di pescatori in capoluogo di provincia, sede di importanti industrie specializzate in vari settori.

La Spezia
La Spezia is an Italian municipality, capital of the province of the same name in Liguria. It is the second largest municipality in the region by population after Genoa.
The city is located at the far east of the Liguria region, in the center of a deep natural gulf to which it gives its name. The gulf, which is also known by the name of Gulf of Poets for its beauty, is surrounded by a continuous chain of hills whose highest peaks, Mount Verrugoli (749 m above sea level), Mount Parodi (673 m), Mount Santa Croce (543 m) and Mount Viseggi (347 m), located on the western side of the town center, overlook the city of La Spezia.
La Spezia owes its economic and social development to the construction of the Military Arsenal in the second half of the nineteenth century. The naval base is one of the most important of the Marina Militare (Italian Navy), had the merit of transforming the city from a tourist and fishing village into a provincial capital, home to important industries specialized in various sectors.
