Indra Curses Sage Gautama: The Story of Ahalya

Did you know that Lord Indra once cursed a renowned sage to become a donkey? The great sage Gautama, husband of Ahalya, was performing severe penance, making Indra jealous. Fearing that Gautama would gain powers exceeding his own, Indra, in a desperate attempt, disguised himself as a rooster and crowed at midnight, tricking Gautama into believing it was dawn. Gautama, breaking his meditation, went to bathe, and Indra, seizing the opportunity, assumed Gautama's form to deceive Ahalya. When Gautama returned, he saw Indra escaping and, understanding the deception, cursed both Indra and Ahalya. He cursed Indra to have a thousand vaginas on his body, which later turned into a thousand eyes due to Brahma's intervention. As for Ahalya, she was cursed to become invisible, living only on air, until Lord Rama touched her with his divine feet. A powerful lesson against deception and jealousy.
