ELBRUS via Baksan-Valley July 2017 I Normal route south climb climbing (Besteigung Normalweg Juli)

Mount Elbrus is with 5642m the highest mountain of Russia and also one of the Seven Summits, more precisely the highest mountain of Europe.

It is located in the Caucasus mountain range between the Caspian and Black Sea and can be accessed via the North or the South. The regular route starts from the Baksan-Valley in the South of Elbrus, starting in Cheget/Terskol and taking a medium of 5 days.

We had two acclimatisation hikes and one day to carry our luggage to the "Botschki" on 3800m, our base camp and on the fourth day we started at 3AM for the summit push. As we didn't take the snowcat, our summit day was a very strenuous and long climb with over 2000 altitude meters. We summited Mt. Elbrus with three friends on the 31st July 2017 under very good conditions and were back in Cheget on the 1st of August.
