"Several members of various organisations arrived including the Army and armed guards and everyone, and they wouldn't even consider the second section 8. They basically looked at the first section 8 and said we were illegally on the property and initially they gave us until five yesterday to get off the property but as it turned out we then tried to negotiate and we have an extension until five o'clock today to get off the property."

"My lawyer said well I think it's best to be off the farm for the weekend and get as much of your valuable stuff as you can off. So we only had a (inaudible) we took off what we could, you know we couldn't take off everything there's still an awful lot of stuff there, but we took off a bit of furniture and stuff, I managed to get all my stuff off, because I was worried about my cattle and goats and things, but we have a friend who's taken them and looking after them for us."

STORYLINE:

The first white Zimbabwean farmers charged with defying government eviction orders appeared
briefly in court Friday and posted bail, allowing them to return to their homes, farming leaders said.

Hundreds of the 2,900 white farmers ordered to leave their land by midnight August 8 have defied the order.

Many reportedly have been harassed by ruling party militants, but the government made no serious move against them until the court case Friday.

Of the remaining 4,500 white commercial farmers in Zimbabwe, 2,900 were told to quit their land by August 8.

Other farmers have so far received no order to move, but that has not stopped them from being forced off of their land.
