Porsche 928 Turbo Update #1! Buckets of Yikes, But Making Progress!
Welcome to the first update on the 1986 Porsche 928 I bought a few months ago. This car is what most people would consider a basket case, but I make so many decisions that some of them are bound to be bad.
I'm making this a video series sorting out all of the sometimes troubling work on this car. If you haven't seen the first video on it, check it out here
https://youtu.be/Mjs0XWnpHww
These cars have always been appealing to me, and finding them with a manual is difficult mated to a 32v. I've taken the plunge to sort this car and this is the first round of work. I added a Wideband air-fuel ratio gauge to accurately monitor whether its running lean or rich. I've relocated the intake air temp sensor and properly sorted the throttle body elbow which was a disaster in itself. I've sorted some of the wiring for the MAF extension, a few vacuum leaks and discovered the crankcase vent system is in quite poor condition.
I also was able to get into contact with Mark Robinson, the man who designed this turbo kit AND a previous owner of this car. A lot of very interesting information was shared, including one previous accident which doesn't change how I feel about the car.
The next steps are to sort the crankcase vent system including adding a catch can, installing the freshly cleaned 30# injectors that this kit is supposed to have, and a new 6:1 FMU. Eventually, once this car is more sorted I'll likely go with a piggy back or standalone engine management but for now I need to get the mechanical aspects of this car straightened out before I try to squeeze every last bit out of it.
Don't forget to subscribe if you want to keep up to date with progress with this car. I'll be posting updates as often as I get work done.
Thanks for watching!
