The 1983 Experiment That Killed Free Will | Libet

In 1983, neuroscientist Benjamin Libet ran the experiment that quietly upended free will. He wired subjects to an EEG, asked them to flex a finger whenever they wanted, and recorded when they consciously decided to move.

The brain's readiness potential started firing 350 milliseconds BEFORE the subject was aware of having decided. The decision was made unconsciously and reached awareness afterward.
