Welcome to the Heavy Spoilers show I'm your host Paul and this video we're breaking down the penultimate episode of Lovecraft Country.

By this point the series is really going off on it's own tangent and it's interesting for fans like me that loved the book but are also excited to see how things are going with this new direction.

We're gonna be breaking it all down but obviously there will be heavy spoilers here so if you haven't seen the episode yet then I recommend that you turn off now. Thank you as always for clicking the video, now let's get into the break down.

k so episode 9 is titled Rewind 1921 and it sees our cast of characters travelling back to the year in question to witness the Tulsa massacre first hand. It's a heartbreaking episode that I can imagine a lot of people, myself included, finding to be a very difficult watch.

This horrendous event has been mentioned several times throughout the series and you may also remember that it was a key plot point in Hbo's Watchmen which aired last year.

The massacre happened in Tulsa Oaklahoma on May 31st and it involved white men descending on black owned businesses and residents. The police and National Guard actually enabled this and even deputised some members of the mob so that their attacks were classed as being operated within the law.

They destroyed over 35 blocks in the area, injured over 800 people and led to the death of 36 people. It was overlooked throughout history and kinda brushed under the rug to the point that a lot of people, myself included thought that it's inclusion in Watchmen was fictional.

I'm ashamed to admit that but since then it's really been brought to light and though it happened over 100 years ago, it still feels like a relevant aspect of society that we shouldn't forget.

The episode very much carries the notion of generational violence committed against the black community and several of the characters we encounter the embodiment of the past sacrificing themselves for the future.

It's very much about accepting that we all have a responsibility to take accountability for things and I thought that this was kind of hinted at in the opening with everyone pointing fingers at each other over who was to blame for what happened to Dee.

After Topsy and Bopsy caught up to her, her arm has started to wither and we discover throughout this entry that she is transforming into a monster herself.

As the group are out of their depth when it comes to handling magic, Atticus says that he's gonna reach out to Christina and will hand over Titus' pages, something which we know could spell death for him.

However, Leti informs him that she already handed them over last week and I think  it's quite ironic how she went to Christina last week trying to get protection for him but ultimately may have spelt his doom. The clues were there when Christina refused to make Tic invulnerable and we do start to get more hints about her overall agenda in this entry.
