In this lecture, Fresco talks about weaknesses in communication, why they exist, and how to minimize miscommunication and confusion. He explains how everyone interprets experiences and words differently because of differences in our backgrounds.

If engineers, builders or mechanics operated with an average person’s style of communication, then inventions, buildings and machines would be impossible to construct. When a surgeon asks for a scalpel, he/she does not receive a pair of scissors. In these professions, language is very precise, exact. To be able to effectively communicate, one needs to agree on common terms.

The Venus Project proposes an alternative vision of what the future can be if we apply what we already know in order to achieve a sustainable new world civilization. It calls for a straightforward redesign of our culture in which the age-old inadequacies of war, poverty, hunger, debt and unnecessary human suffering are viewed not only as avoidable but as totally unacceptable. Anything less will result in a continuation of the same catalog of problems inherent in today's world.
